1. hard to be borne,painful 難以忍受的，痛苦的。
△2H.IV.2.4.211(198):“grievous,ghastly,gapingwounds”，痛苦、可怕、大張口的創(chuàng)傷。
△2H.VI.3.2.246: “They will by violence tear him from your palace,/And torture him with grievous lingering death.”他們就要用暴力把他拖出你的宮殿，并且用凌遲的酷刑把他折磨死。
△R.III.1.1.141:“ ’Tis very grievous to be thoughtupon.”想起來叫人非常難過。
2. grave,serious嚴(yán)重的，嚴(yán)肅的。
△H.VIII.5.1.98(97):“I have,and most unwillingly,of late / Heard manygrievous. I do say,my lord,/ Grievous,complaintsof you；”最近，雖然我很不愿意聽，但還是聽到了許多嚴(yán)重的，我只好說，大人，對你嚴(yán)重的控訴。

3. criminal犯罪的。
