libertyn. 1. freedom,reckless freedom 自由,放縱。 △1H.IV.5.2.70: “Never did I hear / Of any prince so wild a lib-erty.”我還從來沒有聽說過哪個王子像他那樣胡鬧得出了格。(按: liberty又作libertine = rake,浪子。) △H.V.3.3.12: “In liberty of bloody hand,” i.e. With the blood-stained hand free to do what he pleases. 沾滿鮮血的手肆無忌憚。 2. licence,unrestrained action特許,不受約束的行為。 △Com.1.2.102:“l(fā)iberties of sin”,i.e.licensed sinners. 得到許可的犯罪者。 3. deliverance解救。 △Ham.3.2.358 (338): “You dosurely bar the door upon your own liberty if you denyyour griefs to your friend. ” i.e. You surely bar the door upon your own deliverance from your bad hu-mour if you refuse to speak about your griefs to yourfriend. 假如你不向你的朋友一吐愁思,你實在是自尋苦惱。(又譯:把擺脫苦惱之道關在門外。) |
