老死不相往來lǎo sǐ bù xiāng wǎng láigrow old and die without ever visiting one another; never be in contact with each other; not visit each other all their lives ? 鄰國相望,雞犬之聲相聞,民至~。(《老子》八十章) Though neighbouring communities overlook one another and the crowing of cocks and barking of dogs can be heard,丨Yet the people there may grow old and die without ever visiting one another. ? 有些人不是這樣做,而是像老子說的“雞犬之聲相聞,~”,結(jié)果彼此之間就缺乏共同的語言。(《毛澤東選集》1331) Some fail to do so and,like the people described by Lao Zi“do not visit each other all their lives,though the crowing of their cocks and the barking of their dogs are within hearing of each other”.
