包圍地球的空氣層，亦稱大氣圈。由氮、氧、氬和二氧化碳等氣體及微粒等組成。密度一般隨高度增加而趨于稀薄。上界可達(dá)幾千公里。根據(jù)溫度的垂直分布，可自下而上將大氣劃分為對(duì)流層、平流層、中間層、熱層和外大氣層。整個(gè)大氣層對(duì)地球起保護(hù)作用，使其免受宇宙射線和宇宙物質(zhì)影響，同時(shí)也對(duì)地球的溫度起平衡調(diào)節(jié)作用。
