Dido:(Gr. & Rom. myth) queen of Carthage. Afterthe fall of Troy,Aeneas,a Trojan hero,came to thecourt of Dido,and she fell in love with him.When hedeserted her and sailed away to I taly,she burned her-self on a pyre. 黛多·迦太基女王。特洛伊陷落后,英雄埃涅阿斯來到黛多的宮廷并為她所愛。后來他拋棄她而登船奔向意大利,黛多即自焚殉情。 △Mer.5.1.9:“In such a night,Stood Dido with a willow in her hand / Upon the wildsea-banks,and waft her love,To come again to Car-thage.”在這樣的夜晚,黛多搖著柳枝,站在茫茫大海的岸上,要把她的愛人招回到迦太基來。 △2H.VI.3.2.117: “Whenhe to madding Dido would unfold / His father’s actscommenced in burning Troy!”當(dāng)他向如癡如狂的黛多講述他父親從焚燒特洛伊開始的事跡時(shí)!
