順我者昌,逆我者亡順者昌,逆者亡/順之者存,違之者滅shùn wǒ zhě chāng , nì wǒ zhě wáng〔said of the brutal rule of a tyrant〕 those who submit(/obey/bow/are obedient) will prosper (flourish/thrive),those who resist shall perish (/be doomed) ? 探春雖不言語,心里想道:“必非好兆。大凡順者昌,逆者亡; 草木知運(yùn),不時(shí)而發(fā),必是妖孽。”(《紅樓夢》1223) Tanchun remained silent,thinking,“It can’t be a good omen. All living things which obey Heaven’s will must prosper,while all which flout it must die—even plants know that.
