(lit. broom plant) i. e. family nicknameof the dynasty that ruled England from 1154 until thesuccession of the Tudors in 1485.This dynasty was byand by divided in to two royal houses,i.e.the Houseof Lancaster whose badge was the red rose,and theHouse of York whose badge was the white rose.
