1. the most holy place in a church 圣殿。
△Ado.2.1.267 (257): “while she is here,a man may live as quietin hell as in a sanctuary，” i.e. “hell itself becomes asanctuary,in comparison with her presence”(Fur-ness). 她一天留在這世上，一個人就會覺得住在地獄里倒像是住在圣殿里一樣清靜安詳。
2. i. e. church or other sacred place where by law im-munity from arrest was secured,place of refuge （指）教堂或其他神圣場所（往日依法享有逮捕豁免權(quán)），避難所。
△ 3H.VI.4.4.31: “I’ll hence fo rthwith unto thesanctuary / To save at least the heir of Edward’sright.”我要馬上離開這里到教堂去躲避一下，至少把愛德華的王位權(quán)利繼承人保全下來。
