Germs～disease. 細(xì)菌引起疾病?！玸b trouble/inconvenience/unhappiness/pain/grief/anxiety給某人造成麻煩/不便/不幸/痛苦/悲傷/焦慮;～trouble/concern to sb 給某人造成麻煩/憂慮;～sb to change his mind/plants to die使得某人改變主意/造成植物死亡;～sb to jump back嚇了某人一跳;〖同〗 bring about，lead to;〖反〗prevent; 【辨異】 1)cause 與 occasion都可指造成什么的起因。cause 指長時(shí)間以來或恒久的狀況下產(chǎn)生影響作用的力量;而occasion(偶爾，附帶的原因)指提供機(jī)會(huì)使影響得以明顯化或促使影響明顯化的事件，如：The cause of the quarrel between the two men was jealousy，but the occasion was the fact that only one man's wages were increased.(那兩個(gè)人的爭(zhēng)吵是出于嫉妒，而其直接原因則是只有一個(gè)人漲了工資。)2)cause與reason、ground和motive語義相近，不可混淆。cause 是指事情發(fā)生的“原因”，如：the cause of the fire(火災(zāi)的起因);reason是人們用于解釋某事物的“原因”，如：the reason for one's resignation(某人辭職的原因);兩者還都可表示“理由”(說明某一解釋人們是可以接受的)，如：have no cause for suspicion/no reason to suspect sb(沒有理由懷疑某人);ground(理由，根據(jù))語體色彩較為正式，尤用于法律方面，通常用復(fù)數(shù)，如：have no good grounds for believing sth(沒有充分理由相信某事);motive(動(dòng)機(jī)，目的)表示人們內(nèi)心中欲做某事的愿望，如：one's motive for doing sth(某人做某事的動(dòng)機(jī))。3)cause與bring about和make都表示使某結(jié)果、事件等發(fā)生，但用法不同。cause(引起)與bring about(引起)都可接表示直接結(jié)果的賓語，其中bring about語體色彩較正式，原因較間接，如：Films can cause harm.(電影能造成傷害。)Wars bring about a reduction in the birth-rate.(戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)引起出生率降低。)cause 還可接雙賓語結(jié)構(gòu)，如：cause sb harm(給某人造成危害);cause(導(dǎo)致)與 make(致使)都可用于C+n+(to)-inf結(jié)構(gòu)，表示“導(dǎo)致”、“致使”的意思，此時(shí)皆不可變?yōu)楸粍?dòng)語態(tài)，如：Pepper causes people to sneeze/makes people sneeze.(胡椒使人打噴嚏。)make 還可表示“迫使”的意思，這時(shí)可變?yōu)楸粍?dòng)語態(tài)，如：They made him leave. He was made to leave.(他們迫使他離開。他被迫離開。) |
