? 故曰：～； 不知彼而知己一勝一負(fù)； ……(《孫子·謀攻》) Hence the saying:If you know the enemy and know yourself,you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy,for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
? 但戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)不是神物，仍是世間的一種必然運(yùn)動(dòng)，因此，孫子的規(guī)律，“～”，仍是科學(xué)的真理。(《毛澤東選集》458) Yet war is in no way supernatural,but a mundane process governed by necessity. That is why Sun Wu Zi’s axiom，“Know the enemy and know yourself,and you can fight a hundred battles with no danger of defeat”，remains a scientific truth.

But knowing yourself and knowing the enemy is the key to winning all battles. This is axiomatic in military affairs.
