詩(shī)人、小說(shuō)家。他早年是一位具有超現(xiàn)實(shí)主義傾向的詩(shī)人，著有詩(shī)集《尸體一般的樹(shù)木》(l'Arbre comme cadavre,1936)。他后來(lái)創(chuàng)作的大量偵探小說(shuō)充滿幽默和懸念，如《火車(chē)站街120號(hào)》(120,rue de la Gare)、《在高墻的陰影下》(à l'ombre du grand mur)、《牧人狂歌舞劇場(chǎng)之謎》(énigme aux Folies-Bergère)、《巴黎的新秘密》(les Nouveaux Mystères de Paris,共十六卷),其中有幾部小說(shuō)已拍成了電影。
